Osborn Mini Tower
"Very few loudspeakers of this size at any price can match the transparency, detail, dynamics, weight and sheer power of the Mini Towers".

The Osborn Mini Tower has been designed and constructed in Australia, without compromise, in order to obtain the highest possible sound quality in a fashionably tall thin design which is unobtrusive in a living environment. The only criteria in the choice of components, materials, size and cost is the achievement of the ultimate sound quality, in a speaker less physically imposing than the larger Osborn range. We believe that our design goals have been realized with this speaker.

The Osborn Mini Tower is one of the finest speakers in the world, with unmatched speed and transient attack. It has been designed for the Asian Market and smaller European homes and for people who want most of the power and authority of the larger models but can not accommodate their sheer size.

Traditionally speakers of this size and shape, with such small frontal dimensions have had several notable advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that they are unobtrusive and have a high "wife acceptance factor." They also usually gained slightly in imaging integrity due to the small frontal area reducing cabinet reflections. The disadvantages were lower power handling, lower efficiency, minimal bass output, poor cabinet rigidity due to small size and frontal area necessitating thin, lightweight construction. In short a speaker of this type was traditionally purchased to look at and live with, rather than listen to.

At Osborn, we appreciated that there was a market requirement for this type of speaker, but our design philosophies did not allow for a speaker with compressed dynamics, reduced bass extension and a lacklustre, unexciting performance, regardless of how unobtrusive it looked. Therefore we set out to make a speaker that matched the size criteria, but came as close as possible to the performance of the larger models. The dynamics, bass, transparency and sheer power of this little speaker is unmatched by virtually any other speaker of this type at any price. Few other speakers anywhere near their size can deliver the whole weight, power and authority of a full symphony orchestra. From the tinkle of the tiniest bell to the blast of a brass cannon, to the depth of a giant pipe organ, with pin point imaging. Naturally the bass performance, although astonishing, considering what is generating it, cannot match the depth and extension of the larger models. This is a simple matter of physics. Little cones cannot match the air moving capacities of larger ones. Also true sub bass is just not possible with smaller drivers. Some manufacturers try to force the impossible by using large amounts of bass boost to try to compensate for the natural roll off of the drivers. This always results in extended, but flabby, forced sounding, boomey bass. This does not match the "Natural Sound" criteria of Osborn Loudspeakers.

The crossovers use the best components attainable. The capacitors are imported from America and the inductors are wound in-house as none are available commercially which meet our criteria. Each crossover weighs about 3 kg. each and is hard wired with specially selected ultra wide bandwidth, high speed data transfer cable. The Inductors are as big as can be manoeuvred through the bass driver cut-outs. Two separate crossovers are used. One for the two bass drivers and the other handles the treble and mid range.
The cabinets are shaped using high precision, computer controlled milling equipment. All models are constructed from 25 mm Customwood sides and 32 mm fronts and backs and are heavily braced. They are exceptionally heavy, solid and are acoustically inert. High quality natural timber veneers are used, and every cabinet is carefully hand finished to ensure a superb quality finish which will grace any living room.

Only the best quality Turntable/CD Player and Amplifiers were used in the design of these speakers.
These speakers have a number of outstanding features - the ability to separate instruments and place them firmly and accurately on a sound stage of uncanny width and depth. The instruments retain their correct pitch, tone and shimmer with a dynamic range and speed unmatched by any speaker this size, in any price range, with drums retaining almost all of their impact and depth.

The warranty on these speakers is Five years parts and labour from the date of purchase.

Larger amplifiers can be used, but take care. If the speaker distorts, back off the volume. The above specifications show why these speakers are capable of such extraordinary transient performance and yet reveal such intimate detail in the music. This fidelity is possible due to the fine tolerances and light weight of the driver cone and voice coils.
