THEORY OF OPERATION
The primary goal in designing our 211 SET is to manifest the intrinsic sound of 211. The choice of driver tubes and how they are coupled to 211, are critical to whether the purity of 211 sound is retained. Most exisiting designs, using interstage transformers and/or other SET such as 300B or even power pentode such as 6L6 as drivers, will inevitably bring coloration to 211. 5687 is a classical driver tube that is very neutral sounding in nature. However, it is very difficult to properly couple it with 211 without the help of interstage transformer. Nevertheless, Opera solves the problem and 5687 is driving 211 without interstage trannies. There is also a significant difference with those four stages design ( input, driver, buffer, and output , the driver is coupled to output stage through buffer), Cyber 211's driver is directly coupled to 211 without buffer. Therefore there are only 3 stages .
Another important factor is the output transformer design. We use a special alloy cocktail. The dielectric material, instead of using modern polys or even teflon, is a classical material: paper (purposely treated of course).

The 211 is more musical across the midrange, but the 845 has
extra power, scale and authority, and is better with dynamic contrasts.
The choice of which amplifier depends on the efficiency of your
speakers, and they type of music you play, and the volume you
want to achieve.
The Cyber 800 does everything well and is a great "all rounder"
The Cyber 845 has less power and authority, but has much quieter
backgrounds, more transparency and better imaging. They are exceptional
with speaker efficiencies above 90db and with folk, orchestral,
vocal and instrumental music. If you wish to play Heavy Metal,
large drums or loud rock music, they do it well, but with limitations,
and the Cyber 800 is the better choice.
With lower volumes and less demanding music, then the Cyber 211
is the ultimate.
The Cyber 845 is the best compromise within the Cyber range for
a wider musical choice and is a truly exceptional amplifier and
is awesome mated with the R1.1 or preferably the R1.3 pre amplifier.
Greg Osborn Comments,
I finally ordered a pair of Cyber 845 after my curiosity
got the better of me. I knew how spectacular the "ordinary"
Consonance amplifiers were and I wanted to see how they managed
with an "all out" amplifier. I expected a fair bit,
but they easily exceeded my expectations. They have a seamless
and powerful delivery which makes a mockery of their rated 28
watts. They also have a bass performance out of all proportions
to normal single ended amplifiers. The soundstage, transparency,
detail and sense of scale is awesome. These amplifiers give a
performance to match the world's very best tube amplifiers, easily
beating other amplifiers I have tried at 5 times their price.
A price which is really ludicrously low for this build quality
and performance.
