This speaker was designed and constructed with little compromise in order to obtain the highest possible sound quality. The only criteria in the choice of components, materials, size and cost is the achievement of the best possible sound quality at a reasonable price. We believe that our design goals have been realised with this speaker. The speaker was designed for those people who wanted to reproduce the extraordinary bass performance and dynamics of Dolby Digital and THX™ DVD's and Dolby Pro Logic Broadcasts and Video's.
The stunning performance and sheer authority of this subwoofer is hard to believe, and just stunning at any price. It is a genuine sub woofer and is best operating between 15 and 30 Hz, way below what other subwoofers can achieve. For this reason it is never intrusive, or obvious. Listeners can never locate its position in the room, as the whole room just comes alive as part of the action on the screen. There is no bass boost or equalisation used to achieve this performance. Other so called sub woofers use a large amount of equalisation to force the inadequate cabinet and driver to perform at a lower frequency than they are capable of naturally. This true sub woofer achieves it by good design, great components and a fantastic amplifier.
The cabinets are constructed from heavily braced 32 mm Customwood, which ensures that the output of the rear of the Bass Driver is totally isolated from the cabinet. Any spurious cabinet vibrations will result in a loss of definition and sonic purity. The drive unit was chosen from the best available from around the world for the best performance and accuracy possible, at a reasonable cost. The driver in the T 16 is an excellent compromise between cost and performance. It is a genuine Focal Sub driver, and not a cheap Chinese copy.
